The Perils of “Being” Santa!

Published by at 1:00 am under Bits & Thoughts,Christmas

Hi friends!

I received an amusing phone call from my son and I’d like to share the ‘story’ with you.

As a Town Councilman where my son (DS) lives, he volunteers in several capacities around town.  This year, DS took over the duties of playing ‘Santa’ for the City, and for the Fire Department there.  Before you start thinking too much …. “No”, this does not necessarily make me “old” … it just means that my kids stay involved!  LOL

Anyway, I digress.

Yesterday, DS was needed as ‘Santa’ again, as the fire engines routinely visit travel each street during December, blowing their horn & noting where children live for future safe reference, and of course, tossing candy and stopping for personal visits with Santa!   On one of these little street tours,  a young girl came running out waving her letter to Santa.  DS stepped down from the fire engine, listened to her verbal request, and took the letter.    Later, he called here, wondering … “Now what do I do with this?!  There’s no return address … we traveled several streets again, and I don’t want her to be disappointed!”   Poor Santa!

As it turns out, the letter basically tells ‘Santa’ what a hero he is, and thanks him for all of the gifts he has given her family.  It doesn’t ask for anything specific.  Whew!  I think she was probably offering her own heartfelt thanks for “Santas”, without expecting a personal reply after getting a visit in her own front yard.

Sure did make me smile, though!

Have a sweet, and warm weekend, my friends!  And if you ever feel like “Santa”, I believe you’ve been “thanked” by a sweet little girl somewhere in Texas!     😉
