Texas Sawdust & Casey’s ‘Howdy’!

Howdy, Y’all!   It’s time for me to take a quick visit back to my original “roots” in the country.   I’m often reminded “not to forget from whence I came” … and even though I live in a suburb of an expansive Texas metroplex,  “country” is always in my heart.   😉

This is “Casey”!  She could represent the “me-wanna-be” in my youth, as I literally rode the sandy trails in Oklahoma with my even-still-girlfriend-now-professional horse trainer, or it could even represent that still-girlfriend.   I’m smiling just because this “takes me back” to sweet, simpler days for sure.

“Casey” has been paper-pieced from her hat to her boots … literally.   The only coloring appears on her legs, hands, face, and braid.  Now “that” is “eazzzzzzzzzy” coloring, my friends!   Next, I pondered whether or not to color the curly design on her skirt, or add some true-to-Western texture.   I couldn’t stand it … I just “had” to go for the “rope” … as in button thread adhered with a mighty thin line of glue and a bit of patient “guidance”.  Now that coil of “rope”?  That’s the same button thread, wrapped around a fingertip to match size with the stamped image.

This whole creation started messing around in my head when I read the TLC315 Techniques challenge this week …  but …  I only focused on the “dessert” part of the challenge, which was to use something not commonly used on a card.   … sigh…   Just don’t ask … please.  For whatever reason, “that” is the key element that has stayed with me from the time I read the challenge.   Thus, I give you ….. Sawdust!!!!   Texas Sawdust, straight from beneath a powersaw located in the back of this property in Texas …. sooooooo … Texas Sawdust!   Yep … I know … cheap & easy, but I “had” to do it!

The hay bale was stamped, cut out, covered with a medium finger-smearing of Aleene’s Glue from my “original” craft stash … then sprinkled & pressed with original & fresh Texas sawdust.  After a few minutes of quick dry time, I wrapped my oldest-looking wire around the hay bale for a bit more authenticity.   Tah-daaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!   Said bale of “hay” is adhered in the corner of a distressed dsp panel, above an inked dry pressure embossed backing on the card base.   As you know, I don’t use “distressing” very often, but I think it works well for “Casey” the cowgirl.    I’d love to hear what you think about her, and I appreciate your visit here today.   Here’s to a howdylicious weekend on the rise for each of you .. and a reminder that USA “Springs Forward” to Daylight Savings time this weekend on Sunday!    Woooooooooooooohoooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Later, my friends!
